Genç Müzikal | Free Musical Theatre Program in Istanbul

PERFORMING ARTS · MUSICAL THEATRE · FREE

If you want to explore acting, music and movement within the same creative process and turn your own ideas into a stage performance, Genç Müzikal offers a six-week musical theatre experience worth exploring.

Organised as part of the fifth edition of Yücel Cultural Foundation's Young Art Program, participants will combine acting, music, dance, movement and improvisation to create an original mini musical based on their own ideas rather than perform a pre-existing play.

Your own story, not a ready-made production
The program is based on the Devised Theatre / Collective Creation approach. Instead of performing an existing play, participants will choose a shared theme and combine writing, acting, music and movement to create their own stage narrative.

At the end of the six-week process, the original mini musical will be presented to an audience.
No previous stage experience is required
Previous training in acting, music or dance is not required.

Curiosity about the performing arts, openness to experimentation, interest in discovering different ideas and a willingness to create together are more important than professional experience.
What could you gain from the program?
  • An introduction to the fundamentals of musical theatre
  • Greater awareness of voice, rhythm, body, movement and stage presence
  • Creative thinking through acting, improvisation, music and movement
  • Turning ideas into characters, stories and scenes
  • Communication, active listening and collective decision-making
  • Experience developing a musical from an initial idea to a live performance
Instructor
İlayda Güralp is an actor, assistant director and independent performing arts practitioner working across theatre, musical theatre and cinema. Her practice brings together acting, dance, music and collective stage creation.
Why do we recommend this program?
A stage work often emerges through the interaction of several artistic disciplines rather than acting or music alone. We find Genç Müzikal valuable because participants are not simply asked to perform an existing script; they are invited to generate ideas, make decisions together, experiment and eventually create their own original stage work.
