Bizim Çocuklar Gençlik Akademisi Association
Areas of activity
The Association’s activities aim to support the development, social participation and life journeys of children and young people.
About the Association
From volunteering to association work
Bizim Çocuklar Gençlik Akademisi Association was founded in 2007 alongside volunteering activities that began at Üsküdar Hasan Tan Children’s Home.
Since 2007, the Association has aimed to stand by the children whose life journeys and growth it has witnessed, support them and strive to find solutions when they face problems.
It identifies the areas of need concerning children, directs its work and resources to these areas, and tries to make the lives of young people easier.
Some volunteers work as trainers in children’s homes, while others support efforts that help children and young people who have left institutional care take stronger steps in life.
Goals
Supportive work for children and young people
The following goals are presented according to the Association’s published framework of activities.
- To support the cognitive, physical, psychological and social development of children and young people; facilitate their participation in social life; and help them become disciplined, successful individuals who look to the future with confidence through sports, arts and science activities.
- To give children and young people opportunities to realise their potential by discovering their abilities, interests and social strengths.
- To reduce and prevent the risk of children and young people being drawn into crime or developing substance and behavioural addictions by helping them develop their hobbies and interests, and to protect them from the risk of growing up without moral values.
- To raise awareness among caregivers through training; minimise potential conflicts and psychological and social problems between parties; establish environments of love and trust between caregivers and children through education and socialisation; and create opportunities for raising well-educated individuals with sporting ethics who can develop themselves.
- To work towards establishing a forward-looking monitoring system for children and young people, anticipate problems and take precautions.
- To address the labelling and marginalisation of “Children and Young People in State Care” through negative and stigmatising discourse in the media and society; transform this into positive discourse through integration among children and young people; and ensure that the opportunities provided for the success of the target group become a positive indicator in the eyes of society over time.
